Hace unas semanas aprendí algo que desconocía hasta la fecha: la duración de los rizadores de pestañas puede ser de aproximadamente un año (según el uso).
A few weeks ago I learnt something new so far: the duration of lash curlers is about a year (depending on the use).

Sin dilación, pero con el ceño fruncido, me fui al tocador a comprobar el mio. Ahí estaban los surcos en las gomas.
Without further delay, but frowning, I reached my dressing table to check mine. There they were, the lines on the rubber bands.

"Esto no puede ser bueno, me va a dejar el pelo doblado, o mucho peor, roto"
"This can't be good, it is going to bend my lashes, or even worse, broken"

Pero si la duración de un rizador es de más o menos un año, ¿merece la pena gastarse mucho dinero en uno?.

However, if the duration of a lash curler is about a year, is it worth the trouble to spend much money on one?

Tenía entre ojos (o entre pestañas) el rizador de Shu Uemura, cosas de bloggers, hasta que María de Makeupzone enseñó en su post "Rizadores de pestañas" el de Kevin Aucoin.

I had set my sight (or lashes) on Shu Uemura eyelash curler, bloggers' stuff, until Maria of Makeupzone showed the Kevin Aucoin one in her post "Rizadores de pestañas" (Eyelash Curlers).

"Este Kevin de mis entretelas, que siempre tiene que aparecer con los iluminadores y correctores, rompiendo moldes. ¿Ahora qué va a ser?¿Un rizador de pestañas?".

"This guy again, showing up with highlighters and concealers, breaking all the molds. What's next? An eyelash curler?"

Y entre el mío y el suyo, el gran abismo: el último tiene la goma redondeada.
And between hers and mine, the big blue sea: the latter has a rounded rubber band.

Decidido, no quería más gomas planas, más formas en "l".

I had made up my mind, no more flat rubber bands, more "l" shapes.

Encontré este rizador de pestañas por un precio tan ridículo, que dejar de probarlo era un sinsentido.
I found this eyelash curler for such an inexpensive price that letting it go would be wrong.

Maquillarse con presbicia (vista cansada)/ Makeup and Presbyopia.

Nunca me había parado a  pensar en los problemas que puede tener alguien con presbicia (vista cansada). Firmar un documento o meter el pin en un cajero, ya pueden ser un inconveniente, pero maquillarse puede llegar a convertirse en todo un desafío.
I had never stopped to think about the problems you may have with presbyopia. Signing a document or even inserting the pin in an ATM, may be a drwaback, but making yourself up can become a real challenge.

Mi madre no suele maquillarse demasiado, un poco de máscara de pestañas y algo de colorete. En algunas ocasiones, incluso algún smokey eyes con tonos marrones.
My mother does not make herself up very often, some mascara and blush. Occasionally, even some smokey eyes with neutral colours.

Verla maquillarse es acabar de los nervios. Suele ponerse las gafas apoyadas a la mitad del tabique nasal y mirar  fijamente, escudriñando a través de los cristales, con la barbilla levantada, de cuando en cuando, entre pinceladas.
Watching her making up is going nuts. She wears her glasses on the middle of her nose, peering through the glasses with her chin up from time to time, between strokes.

"Me maquillo sin ver nada, ¿cómo estoy?" me dice cuando me ve pasar atareada, de arriba a abajo.
"I can hardly see when I'm making myself up, how do I look?" she says to me when I pass by busy, up and down the corridor.

"Bien, mamá, ¿y el espejo?" digo apuntando al espejo de aumento de IKEA.
"You look good mom, what about the mirror?" I say pointing at the magnifying mirror by IKEA.

El espejo se le ha quedado corto, "espejito, espejito"!!!
The mirror is insufficient now, "mirror, mirror"!!!

Hace unos meses le regalaron unas gafas. Pensando que eran de Carnaval, intentó ponérselas- "no tita, son unas gafas para maquillarse"- le dijo mi prima.
Some months ago she was given a pair of glasses. Thinking they were meant for Carnival, she tried to wear them- "they are not, auntie, these are for makeup"- my cousin said.

Me resultaron tan curiosas que me inspiraron para hacer este post.
I found them so odd that they inspired me to make this post.
