Konad vs Essence.

Es un descubrimiento esto del Nail Art y un hobby bastante entretenido y creativo. Desde que me llegó el pedido de Maquillalia he hecho dos looks de estampaciones y quiero compartir mis experiencias con vosotros.
What a discovery Nail Art is, it is also a very fun and creative hobby. Sice I got my order from Maquillalia I have made two looks and I'd like to share my experiences with you.

PLACAS DE ESTAMPACIÓN/ IMAGE PLATES

Apenas hay diferencia, aparente. Essence ha lanzado placas rectangulares que incluyen 9 diseños, mientras que Konad tiene 7. A primera vista las placas de Konad parecen como un pelín más profundas. Esto está basado en meras conjeturas ya que el tallado es algo minúsculo.
There is hardly any difference, apparently. Essence has launched rectangular plates with 9 designs, as Konad include only 7. At first sight Konad plates seem slightly deeper. This is based on a mere impression as the carving is tiny.



Las placas de Essence vienen recubiertas por un film transparente casi inapreciable. Hay que quitarlo porque más de una persona ha pensado que no funcionaban y es que no habían quitado el plástico protector.
Essence plates are covered by a protective plastic almost invisible. You must remove it as many people have thought that the plates did not work and it was because of this.

LACAS/ SPECIAL NAIL POLISHES

Complete kit

Deciros que tengo tres lacas/ I own three nail polishes:

• Negra mate de Konad/ Black matte by Konad
• Plateada metálica de Konad/ Silver metallic by Konad
• Blanca mate de Essence (especial para estampado)/ Matte white special stamping lacquer by Essence.

Lo de las lacas depende mucho del acabado más que de la marca. Las mates son más pigmentadas, la metálica apenas se ve en el sello y no he tenido la posibilidad de probarla en la uña, con eso de no estropear la manicura. Entre la negra y la blanca no hay diferencia. La plateada me ha decepcionado un poco, la verdad.
Results depend much on the finish and not so much on the brand. Matte ones are more pigmented, the metallic one is hardly visible on the stamper and I haven't got a chance yet to try it on my nails, not to spoil my manicure. No difference at all between the white and the black one. I am a little bit disappointed with the silvery one, really.

SELLO/STAMPER

Tengo el de Essence y la verdad va muy bien. Funciona con las placas y lacas de Konad y las placas de Konad y la laca de Essence.
I have the one by Essence and it works really well. I works with Konad polishes and plates and Essence polish.
Tiene la textura de una goma de borrar, no es muy blando, como yo pensaba y es fácil de limpiar.
It has the texture of a rubber, it is not very soft, as I thought, and it is quite easy to clean.

RASPADOR/SCRAPER

Inútil, raya las placas y no merece la pena, hay gente a la que se le mete la laca por unas perforaciones y lo pasa fatal intentando quitar los restos.
Estoy utilizando una tarjeta de crédito usada y va genial.
Totally useless, it scratches the plates and there are people who get nail polish on some holes and try very hard to remove the rests.
I used an old credit card and it is great.

BASE SUJECIÓN/BASE FOR PLATES

Totalmente innecesaria, coloco una servilleta o papel de cocina y la placa no se mueve del sitio, luego tiro la servilleta. La base de plástico se mancharía y habría que limpiarla cada dos por tres, un rollo!
Completely unnecesary, I place a paper napkin on the desk and the plate does not move an inch, later on I put it into the bin. The plastic base would get stained and you'd have to clean it frequently, a mess!

PRIMERAS IMPRESIONES/FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Tenía las uñas pintadas de malva y con una capa de brillo cuando probé el kit la primera vez. Os cuento por partes/ I had my nails painted in lavender with a top coat when I first tried the kit. My impressions:

Intento/Attempt 1- laca plateada- placa de Essence: FALLIDO, la laca no se pega, el sello se queda limpio. Silver lacquer-Essence plate: FAILED. The polish does not stick onto the stamper.

(Limpio la placa y repito la operación con todas las lacas y NADA. A la quinta vez ya estampa. Posible conclusión: que haya quedado pegamento del plástico protector...?)
(I cleaned the plate and repeated this step with the rest of the lacquers and NOTHING. It sticked to the stamper at the fifth attempt. Conclussion: possible glue remains from the protective plastic...?)

Intento/Attempt 2- Casi aburrida de la placa de Essence, cojo la de Konad. Estampa con el resto de lacas. Increíble. Pillo la flor grande de color negro y la estampo en la uña.
Almost bored of the Essence plate, I pick Konad's. It stamps with the rest of nail polishes. Awesome. I choose a big black flower and proceed to stamp all my nails.

Observo varias cosas/ I realize of several things:

1. La uña al ser redondeada ha de ser estampada de lado a lado. Si lo haces de raíz a punta ocurre que tienes que presionar el sello para que se adapte a esa forma...y si lo haces...Nails are rounded, so the image must be placed from side to side. If you do it from the cuticle to the tip you will have to press the stamper to adapt to the shape of the nail...and if you do..
2. La imagen se expande y se deforma, y más cuando la laca es negra o pigmentada y queda horrible. The image expands and deforms, even more if the lacquer is black or pigmented and it looks awful.
3. Si la imagen tiene partes anchas como hojas, pétalos, etc, donde hay una cantidad abundante de producto es más posible que se deforme. If the image has some wide parts, like petals, leaves, etc. when there is an abundant amount of product, it's more likely to become deform.
4. Antes de estampar es conveniente comprobar si la imagen está completa en el sello. Si no, hay que volver a repetir el proceso. Before stamping it is necessary to check if the image is complete on the stamper. Otherwise, you need to repeat all the process.
5. No he conseguido en estos dos looks estampar sin tener que limpiar la placa antes de cada uso. I haven't achieved to make these looks without having to clean the plates before each use.
6. Cuando retiras el exceso, hay que intentar hacerlo también suavemente, así cuesta menos pasar la imagen al sello. When you remove the excess, you must do it soflty, otherwise it will be more difficult to get the image tranfered onto the stamper.
7. Con las placas de Essence tienes que estar rápido, tres de cada 6 veces (y me quedo corta) una vez retirado el exceso, el sello no pilla el diseño. Casi descartamos los degradados en varios colores en un mismo motivo. You must act quicky with Essence plates, 3/6 times (an understatement) and once removed the excess, the stamper does not get the design. I have almost rejected the possibility of making gradient motifs.

ESTAMPAR ALINEADO/STAMPING ALIGNED

Primer paso, no mováis la placa o estaréis cambiando la orientación del dibujo. Segundo, no necesariamente tienes que acercar el sello a la uña, hazlo al revés, mira cómo y dónde está el dibujo, acerca la vista y la uña y hazla rotar de lado a lado sobre el sello.

First thing, do not move the plate or you'll be changing the orientation of the motif. Secondly, you do not necessarily have to put the stamper onto the nail, you can approach the nail to the stamper and look closer. 

ELEGIR PLACAS

Os recomiendo Konad por dos motivos: diseños más bonitos y mejor calidad de estampación. Con las placas de Essence como se te vaya el santo al cielo, ya no se adhiere el dibujo al sello y es una pérdida de tiempo.

I recommend Konad for two reasons: nicer designs and a best quality of stamping. With Essence plates, if you spend more time than necessary, the image does not stick to the stamper and it is a total waste of time.

No os lancéis a comprar placas a lo loco, mirad dos cosas antes/Don't purchase anything, check a few things before:

• Que os guste la placa y que vaya con vuestro estilo. La de leopardo es muy mona, pero luego es atrevida, si eres de las que no le gusta llamar la atención, te recomendaría estampados pequeñitos y motivos, en vez de estampados grandes. /You must like the plate and it must fit your style. Leopard one is cute, but if you don't like to call attention, you should pick smaller designs and motifs, instead of big patterns.
• Que la placa tenga la opción de combinar estampados. /The plate should include different complementary designs.
• Que tengáis un motivo igual pero más pequeño para la uña del meñique. Es cierto, pero si tenéis esa uña pequeñita, como me pasa a mi, una mariposa que queda genial en el dedo gordo, queda horrososo en el pequeño. It should also include smaller designs for the small nail. If you have a tiny small nail, like mine, a butterfly may look beautiful on the thumb, but awful in the small.
• Coged tipos de placas distintos: motivos, estampados completos, manicura francesa, etc. Always choose plates with different images: motifs, complete patters, French manicure, etc.

BRILLO/TOP COAT

No he dejado mucho tiempo entre la estampación y la aplicación del brillo, lo que sí es importante es aplicar una buena gota y esparcirla sin frotar la estampación para que no se corra. Es importante que ya que la capa de brillo es abundante, al secar no se quede basta. Estoy utilizando la Top Coat de Mavala y va genial.
I haven't left much time between the image and the top coat application. You must apply a big drop and spread it all over the nail softly, avoiding to sweep over the image to avoid it to smeer. Choose a good top coat, as the layer is going to be thick, when it dries it should be as thinner as possible. I used Mavala Top Coat and I love it!
